Are you new to candy wrapping and you aren't sure what all the strange terms mean? I've discovered that there are alot of people who aren't sure what to do with certain products and don't understand what some of the appreviations are that we use. So here is where I'll attempt to expain some candy wrapping terms for you.
SOE-----------stands for a STANDARD OPEN END wrapper. It's a wrapper that will fit around a normal flat Hersey candy bar and the ends are left open. Some people purchase colored foil and pre-wrap the candy bar in it before placing the soe around it...this gives your wrapper a very professional look. Some people also choose to leave the ends sticking out or tape them up to the candy bar before wrapping. PLEASE NOTE: You MUST leave the origianal wrapper on the candy....you place your personalized wrapper over the top of it.
SCE---------stands for a STANDARD CLOSED END wrapper. This wrapper is longer than the soe and cover the entire candy bar. You will need to secure both the back and each end of your personalized wrapper. There is a little tool called a "crimper" that will make your ends look just like the ends of the regular wrapper....I purchased mine from Michaels. It just crimps the edges....you will still need to secure the wrapper with double-sided tape first.
MINI----------This type of personalized wrapper fits the small Hershey minature bars that come in a bag. They are pretty small and don't allow a whole lot of room for personalization but most people use them by putting several in a small box or a clear bag with a topper. The ends are open to these wrappers.
BAG TOPPER----------This wrapper is cut out and folded over the top of a bag. It depends on how wide your wrapper is as to what bag it fits. I have made them where they are about 6-7 inches wide and they will fit the small lunch bag or zip lock bag. I also have a ready to print sheet that has both the bag topper and an insert on it. This bag topper is approx. 5 1/4 inches wide and will fit over a clear cello bag with the insert placed inside the bag. These clear bags can be purchased at most Walmarts or Hobby Lobby in the candy or cake sections. I've also found them in the jewerly making section.
PENCIL SLIDE----------This is a cute and very inexpensive favor! If you purchase the ready to print sheets that I have on my site you will recieve 6 slides on one sheet...all you have to do is cut them out. After cutting the slide out....punch a hole at the top and botton and then just slide a pencil or straw through the holes to where the round part of the slide is at the front and your pencil behind it. You want your holes to just barely be large enough for the pencil to slide through so that it doesn't fall out of the slide too easy.
CU------------means commercial use. Most items that say this mean that you may use the item to sell but you'll need to read the descriptions because usually it means that you have to add something to it or if it's a graphic, you must put it ON something. Some things are NOT allowed to be sold as a digital download and you are personalizing for your customer and selling a printed finished product.
CU4CU-----------means that you may take the product and sell (not as is) by adding a graphic or personalization to it and then your customer may also sell it but they must sell it as a personalized and finished product.
RESELLER--------means that you are purchasing the product to be able to sell it "as is"......the same way your purchased it. Your customer may then use it on their CU projects....they may NOT sell "as is".
300 DPI-----------means that the item was designed at a high resolution for great printing. It may be resized pretty easy and does not lose it's clarity.
JPEG----------is a format that can be reconized and used by just about any computer...you don't have to have a graphics program. Anything in jpeg format has a white background around it.....it's NOT transparent.
PNG--------is your transparent format and means that you won't have a white background around it.
TOU---------stands for Terms of Use. This is where it will tell you what you are allowed to do with the product and when credit is to be given to the designer. Every designer's TOU is different.
3600 x 3600------------is a full size sheet of paper for scrapbooking that is 12 inches by 12 inches. Candy wrappers usually use "backgrounds" that are much smaller....either 800 x 800 or 1000 x 1000. A full size paper may be used for candy wrapping projects if you know how to crop them...if you just try to "resize" them, most of the time it doesn't look right because it makes your pattern way too small.
Quick Pages----------these are pages that are used in scrap books. There are usually several frames on them so all you have to do is take your picture and place behind the frame. This may be done with a graphics program or you also could print the page out first, cut the frame out and tape your picture to the back. But it's usually used as a digital page and then printed.
READY TO PRINT-----------on my store when I say that it means that I have already taken the item and placed it on a full 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper for you so that it's sized correctly and all you have to do is print it, cut it out and enjoy. These items are designed for people who don't have a graphics program and are not interested in personalizing the wrapper themselves.
TRUE SIZE---------means that the wrapper is the size it was designed at in PSP. It's the true size you need but to print it you will first need to place it on a full size 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. If you try to just print at full page...it will print way too big!
I will add more terms as I think of them but if you have a question about anything....please feel free to email me at creationsbyg@yahoo.com
